Subscription Art Box: Outside the Box CreationMarch 29, 2017We received a great subscription box just in time for a snow storm, what fantastic timing! This creative creation was full of fun things for any young artist. My daughter loved it. The contents of this monthly subscription box vary depending on project, each month offering a different theme. In every box no matter which month will include a book, high quality art supplies, and detailed instructions. Our Outside the Box Creation theme was TEXTURE and inside the box contained:
I have encouraged my daughter to try to draw every day in her new sketch pad. If she does not, I sit there and draw in it instead, which encourages her through example, the best and most influential kind of teaching. My son is not the biggest free hand artist just yet, but we sat and used the pastel crayons together in a coloring book and he loved how we could easily blend colors. I have to admit that although I love it when my kids come home from school with 100% on their math, spelling, and reading work, my favorite thing to put on our fridge is their beautiful artwork. It is colorful, creative, and unique, just like them and this great monthly subscription art box! I had the pleasure of exchanging a few emails with the owner and creator of Outside the Box Creations for a quick Q&A: Q. How did Outside the Box Creation begin? A. "I'm a mom of 3 and when they were in elementary school, I was really frustrated with the lack of good art education! Our district doesn't have any paid elementary art teachers! So, I volunteered as an "art docent" in their schools for about 12 years. Then., the last couple of years, I helped with coordinating and training all of the district docents. We still don't have paid art teachers and having a volunteer in the classroom once per month isn't enough. When I saw how big the subscription box business is, I though, "That's what I need to do!" So, I took the risk and quit my job. Luckily, my undergraduate degree is in fine art and I have had many years of experience in the corporate & non-profit sector to draw upon!" Q. What about the kids who's families can't afford the boxes? A."It is part of my business model to support art organizations and schools. I have already donated about 7 or 8 boxes to schools, Seattle Children's Hospital, Issaquah Schools Foundation, and I am an art docent at a juvenile detention center." Outside the Box Creation is designed for children ages 5-11, yet, it can easily be enjoyed by all. The contents are high quality and the instructions are beautifully detailed explaining the theme and how the products all relate to the theme. The best part is having something to sit and enjoy with your kids that does not require batteries. arts organizations to make art more accessible for all children.
